Gone for a bit

Peace. I'll be away from the blogsphere for a minute (aprox 2 weeks) so I won't be posting in that time. I decided to give y'all a chunky post with a lot of links of some things that resonate with me. Check 'em out and before no time I'll be back. By the way the fast is going good. I'll have more on that when I return.

I got the following 2 post from Ultraviolet Underground. Finally the government has conceded that some immunization shots cause autism. A lot of us have been saying this all of the time. Also keep your eyes open for this new bill that is trying to forcibly medicate pregnant women whom are diagnosed as depressed.

Some know that I have an issue with the whole Peta-esque type animal savior movements because basically they are racist. They don't hold the sanctity of Original People's lives and history in any type of esteem (take for instance the whole Peta campaign where they compared Black slavery to animal cruelty). Check out the post by La Chola and the discussion that follows. It hits a lot of the points right on the head (by the way got the link to it from the Vegans of Color blog.

As an aside I always joke (or am I really joking) with meat eaters that I eat more of a 'variety' of foods of my target group (vegetables, fruits, etc) then they do (meats). On the average the meat eaters I know only eat at most about 5 or 6 different types of meats. Shoot...I eat more variety of veggies in one meal. I point out that I probably have experimented with more types of meats (before I became veg) then they have. I've eaten snake, lion, boar, raccoon, etc (yeah I know..that stuff is nasty..ha). So when I get into that joking mode (or am I joking) I tell them to go all out. Eat MEAT dammit. Eat some roaches, some rat, some possum, some pigeon, etc. Be like Andrew Zimmern on Bizzare Foods and experiment with exotic food worldwide. I watched a few episodes the other day and I'll just say that the fried chicken uterus, pickled unhatched chicken eggs, and still beating frog heart aren't my cup of tea.

Those who frequent the spot know that I do this for Original People world wide. The intent is to show that there exist a pre Peta hippie-esque tree hugging eco-consciousness amongst Original People. Thus I like to put on front street various sites of Original People who are doing their Green Gangsta Boogie. By the way, some of these may be in different languages. So you can either just get your language reading weight up or revel in the fact that we're doing this world wide (no more music by the suckers).

Ya know I gotta give Ani Phyo some shine.
Check out the Pinoy vegetarians at Pinoy Vegetarian and some more recipes over at Filipino Vegetarian Recipes.
We got the Asian Vegan at this spot dropping it.
Now just dip a little and stop by the Indonesian Vegan Society. It don't stop.
Venture over to The Green Belt Movement which was founded by the great heroine Kenyan Wangari Maathai, the professor-turned-activist who won the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.
Now these next two are for the language challenged yet as I said before, get your weight up.
First check out this veggie spot in Puerto Rico
Second check out the Iranian Vegetarians

I'm not a Luddite or Neo-Luddite (get your vocab game up). I love technology (I'm writing on a computer ain't I) and my personal view is that we can evolve technology in tune with nature. I've been in love with biomimicry ever since I read a book on the subject. Here are a few sites you should check out.

http://biomimicry.net/

Also check out some future musings about Engery Islands

Black People take stock about diabetes. I have lost numerous family members due to diabetic complications that could've been avoided with diet. My physical brother has diabetes and has heeded my 'preaching' and is doing quite well because of it.

Finally remember I am not just a vegan. I am a vegan who is on his way to advocating sun fried foods being a major portion of your diet. Then check out this page Sun Foods that has some beautiful pics of some exotic fruits.

Trash in the Sea

Peace. Third day of the fast. Let me just offer a word of advice. When you go on the fast don't go out House dancing the first night of the fast..ha. I take that back. It was a good time and I did readjust by drinking a whole bunch of water yesterday. Third day is going well thus far. Damn that salt water flush! A little sore at some points of the body so I'm increasing the lemon portion. Haven't started the 'emotional' flush yet and the mental is still kinda foggy yet I keep track of all of my body's changes. Have alot of things going on so I've kinda been 'distracted' from my own fast yet I'm going to hone in on it this weekend so that I can really record the fluxes.

Now, to add on to my plastic expose check out the 'gyre'. The gyre is a swirling vortex of trash in the Pacific Ocean (I got this from the Ultraviolet Underground which in turn got it from Viropop).

This is just nasty. This sh*t is nasty. Stay in tune as I drop some alternatives to getting rid of trash, why I have a problem with drinking bottled water, and what to do with those plastic bags.

Got plants?

I read the The Secret Life of Plants way back in the day. It explores the probability that plants have some degree of sentience from various different types of experiments. One has plants being hooked up to a polygraph and a device that drops a live shrimp into boiling water when the scientist isn't in the room. When the results are checked it is seen that the polygraph moved eratically when the shrimp was dying. There are other various test that show that plants develop more harmoniously around certain music and that even metal can be 'poisoned' by snake venom. It definitely opened my eyes up in terms of thinking of ways to maximize proper food production and developing a more balanced relationship between plants and humans.

Now a while back FaaTma let me knowledge a song by Stevie Wonder from his album the Secret Lives of Plants. I made an off comment remark about the book and then Knowledge was made born that his album was the soundtrack to a whole documentary that was based on the book. What???!!! Above is part I of the documentary (you can find all of the other parts after you watch part I).

Building on the whole science of an intuitive relationship between man and plant you have to mention the Grandmaster George Washington Carver. He created loads of peanut and yam products from food products, oils, to dyes. Before he even went to school he was known as the Plant Doctor. He developed various types of health cures (that are lost to time because he didn't write alot of them down). He created a peanut milk that went over well in parts of Africa where they couldn't raise domestic cattle because of the teste fly. He was incredible.

Another great man in the science of plants was Jagdish Chandra Bose. Check up on him. Get learned ;-)

Sun Gazing Again

I'm back to sun gazing as of this first day of the fast. It's on!

How the Urban Vegan keeps his physical up to par

Fell in love with Capoeira Angola as soon as I found out about Afri-Atlantic martial arts in HS. Love the 'get close to the Earth' movements that resonate with my B-Boyisms. I can listen to the berimbau for hours.

My first dance love was Rocking/Uprocking. Even now when I hear that break in a song I feel like its time to start throwing jerks and burns. The essence of martial dancing cool. I've been returning to the Apache Line and its been good.

Before Luda was throwing bos we had our hand styles in the hood. Only recently has it come into the limelight yet we ain't ever need anyone's validity to do our thing with 52 Hand Blocks. Shoot...doubt it? Just come on through and it'll be like a scene out of Friday ("you got knocked the kcuf out!")

I keep trying to get out yet they drag me back in! Nah, I ain't never going to leave House Dancing. Dance sol music at its best. One of the ways that I know to manipulate space and time. Nothing quite makes me feel this good.

Can you dig it??!!

So I'm rolling with a female friend to a clothing store (for the record...why did I torture myself like this. If it is not your signifigant other don't obligate yourself) and I ran into a former writing student of mines (the urban vegan taught poetry and prose to high teenagers folks and writing is actually my calling and..oh yeah...I have a book of poetry out.). After some small talk he told me about a new RAW FOOD CAFE that opened in West Haven (right next door to New Haven where I rule). First off HOW THE L DID SUCH A PLACE OPEN UP WITHOUT ME KNOWING ABOUT IT!. We rolled over to Catch A Healthy Habit Cafe' (after an eternity in women's apparel). The folks were friendly, the drinks divine, $1/minute massages, and wi-fi...hmmmmm....starting to like this place. Anyway stay tunned for more reports from the spot (yeah I would find it one day before I was starting my fast).

Now another thing that I have been excited about is connecting Nation-wide with other Black Green Gangsta folks (Now by Black I mean an Original/Indigenous person ie non white...not just 'African-American'...yeah...more on that later...Black, Brown and Yellow...all Shades 'O Black to me). So keep checking the side bars cause its a growing.

R.A.W.

Now that we've had our PSA from Big Daddy Kane (btw I've been 90% raw since like November..what!) let's get to the heart of the matter (etymology Middle English, from Old French matere, from Latin mteria, wood, timber, matter, from mater, mother (because the woody part was seen as the source of growth..get educated..the Original woman is the Earth).

I wanted to let you know that Original people are getting GANGSTA with the Green (for the uninitiated that means 'people of color' us indigenous, melanin skin tagged up, sitting in the back of the bus, colonized, otherized folk). There ain't a whole lot of whining going on over here.

Let's start with the children and let pre-teen Svern Suzuki let you know "how it is". She basically is telling adults to check their selves.

Then let's bounce over to the Black Farmers working to form some farm co-ops (insert PE's "brothers going to work it out here").

Finally, they ain't PLAYING in Brazil. You bring genetically modified food in here we're going to f*ck up your WHOLE crop! Now you can't get any realer than that!

CPR

Peace. This was written by a good friend of mine's a while back.

CIVILIZATION’S POWERFUL RESPONSIBILITY

Peace in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, the Blackman of Asia

Do you know how to jumpstart a car? We've all been there before, figuring out positive and negative connections. The joy that comes over us when we resurrect that dead battery. Now I ask, do you know how to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) on an infant who has had something lodged in their throat and has stop breathing? Do you know how to save the life of a child?

This is not an instruction manual on First Aid and CPR. This is just my thoughts on the importance of being prepared. It is a known fact that more people know how to jumpstart a car then provide CPR to a man, woman, or child. Think on that a moment. In my judgement this is not acceptable amongst those of us whom are civilized people. Civilization has a Powerful Responsibility.

People do not return from a physical death. It is up to us to save people from that physical death.

Most Fire Stations and Red Cross offer free classes in First Aid and CPR certification. One should consider becoming certified to TEACH First Aid and CPR also. This is a service that could be offered by the poor righteous teachers to the public to save their own lives. This is one of the most practical things that I have learned. Our righteous brother who was a prophet known as Jesus was said to have healed the sick. This is also our duty. One of Jesus’ own disciples, Luke, was a physician. In the Knowledge Born degree of the 1-40 a verse in St. Luke’s gospel is referred to:

St. Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his Lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

I have seen the stripes or rather I have seen someone distraught over holding the body of a child that they could’ve saved if they had only been prepared. Not only must we prepare ourselves we must prepare the Nations with this Knowledge of health, healing, in accordance with eating the right foods (preventive medicine in and of itself).

While joking with my God I told him.......

I don't just want you to take my breath away. I want you to be able to return it.

He agreed.

Peace,

Love is

Love ain't red. Nah...for real. That's lust. And don't get me wrong...some good old lust is good for ya (for you chakra heads that like 1/2 way between the root/base chakra and the sacral chakra. The root is red and is identified with the adrenal glands while the sacral is orange and identified with the gonads). Yet LOVE isn't red. That merger of the intersection between the root and sacral chakra can be a part of love though and in a healthy relationship between man and woman should be.

Love is green y'all like good sol cooked veggies (the heart chakra is green and identified with thymus gland). I ain't going to get all metaphysical here yet you need to let your cup floweth over.

Sometimes some of those 'meta physicians' want to emphasize that 'super duper cosmic hella big old fat love'. Getting in 'tune with the vibes'. And for some reason they have a hard time operating on the micro or meso level.

In terms of male and female..check it...it's okay to love and be loved. If it takes male and female to manifest child imagine what type of things can manifest on the mental level if you just let green love be. Green loving is a healthy bond that reveals incredible fruits in the garden. Emotional health is a part of this regimen also folks. Just like healthy eating is about keeping it simple and getting back to basics so are healthy relationships simple. We tend to just complicate things. Love isn't a noun. It's a verb. Now listen to Debarge..ha

From private to public

Rats, drug deals, prostitution and a whole bunch of trash....isn't that what goes down in the back alley? Imagine if that space was given a colonic and given back to the public. This is what is going down in several towns. They are making alleys green and turning them over to shops, diners, etc. They can be used as a space for public congregation instead of hidden dark spots. Check out where they are doing this

Kill your own meat

Nah..for real...do that. It's amazing that the majority of Americans have never been around meat being slaughtered. I swear that I think some think that meat comes out of a machine all neatly wrapped in Styrofoam and plastic.

I use to go to farms during the summer plus I've been to a slaughter house so let me just let you in on one secret. When you kill and animal and the blood stops flowing the meat starts to turn grey because the oxygen in the blood isn't circulating throughout the body. For y'all religious types that's why that book of yours says the life is in the blood. Yet why is that meat that you buy all red? Because they DYE it for you DIE-t. They want you to think it is all freshly killed and stuff when it was really killed weeks ago.

Alot of that red dye that is used is Cochineal dye. That's a particular type of insect y'all. So that means in addition to eating meat you are grubbing on some insect.

Cochineal is one of the few water-soluble colourants that resist degradation with time. It is one of the most light- and heat-stable and oxidation-resistant of all the natural colourants and is even more stable than many synthetic food colours.[15] The water-soluble form is used in alcoholic drinks with calcium carmine; the insoluble form is used in a wider variety of products. Together with ammonium carmine they can be found in meat, sausages, processed poultry products (meat products cannot be coloured in the United States unless they are labeled as such), surimi, marinades, alcoholic drinks, bakery products and toppings, cookies, desserts, icings, pie fillings, jams, preserves, gelatin desserts, juice beverages, varieties of cheddar cheese and other dairy products, sauces and sweets
(from wikipedia son)

It's one of those red # dyes (I forget which one). It 'tricks' alot of people because it reads as 'all natural ingredients'. Yeah...you eating insect husk. Oh, and by the way, that cherry in your drink...why do you think it is SO bright red? Insect dye all over that mutha.

The simple solution is learn to funkin read. If you don't know what an ingredient is why are you eating it? It's not so much that you don't know what it is. Its more on why you would eat the unknown.

Taking Shelter from the Earth

Again, Green Gangsta (I'm gonna drop a whole manifesto one of these days), Original People ARE addressing environmental concerns outside of the hippie-esque super left can't we all just get along model. Their view points are rooted in indigenous pre-colonial, pre-imperialistic, pre-slavery, pre-genocidal, etc. concepts. With al of that said let's take a moment to meditate on the life of Iranian-American Nader Khalili.

"Nader Khalili, California architect/author is the world renowned Iranian-American Earth Architecture teacher and innovator of the Geltaftan Earth-and-Fire System known as Ceramic Houses, and of the Superblock construction system. Khalili received his philosophy and architectural education in Iran, Turkey, and the United States."

He recently returned to the essence. You can read more about him and his work here. Make the time to learn more about him and his work.

Well...the Pope said it...

Oh thank ya massa (sorry have to throw a little bit of that in there). Proves my point AGAIN. If we have already (meaning the Green Gangsta crew) decided that environmental destruction is not good why do we care what the Vatican says? Isn't this the same institution that supported slavery, put their own 'crusades' (genocide, colonialism, imperialism, etc) in indigenous lands, and got a whole secret society of men raping boys? Yeah..I'm a little bitter. It's interesting though in terms of the psychology of religion. Instead of just looking at something rationally it has to be a 'commandment from (mystery) god' in order for it to get done.

Vatican lists "new sins," including pollution

By Philip Pullella

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Thou shall not pollute the Earth. Thou shall beware genetic manipulation. Modern times bring with them modern sins. So the Vatican has told the faithful that they should be aware of "new" sins such as causing environmental blight.

The guidance came at the weekend when Archbishop Gianfranco Girotti, the Vatican's number two man in the sometimes murky area of sins and penance, spoke of modern evils.

Asked what he believed were today's "new sins," he told the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano that the greatest danger zone for the modern soul was the largely uncharted world of bioethics.

"(Within bioethics) there are areas where we absolutely must denounce some violations of the fundamental rights of human nature through experiments and genetic manipulation whose outcome is difficult to predict and control," he said.

The Vatican opposes stem cell research that involves destruction of embryos and has warned against the prospect of human cloning.

Girotti, in an interview headlined "New Forms of Social Sin," also listed "ecological" offences as modern evils.

In recent months, Pope Benedict has made several strong appeals for the protection of the environment, saying issues such as climate change had become gravely important for the entire human race.

Under Benedict and his predecessor John Paul, the Vatican has become progressively "green."

It has installed photovoltaic cells on buildings to produce electricity and hosted a scientific conference to discuss the ramifications of global warming and climate change, widely blamed on human use of fossil fuels.

Girotti, who is number two in the Vatican "Apostolic Penitentiary," which deals with matter of conscience, also listed drug trafficking and social and economic injustices as modern sins.

But Girotti also bemoaned that fewer and fewer Catholics go to confession at all.

He pointed to a study by Milan's Catholic University that showed that up to 60 percent of Catholic faithful in Italy stopped going to confession.

In the sacrament of Penance, Catholics confess their sins to a priest who absolves them in God's name.

But the same study by the Catholic University showed that 30 percent of Italian Catholics believed that there was no need for a priest to be God's intermediary and 20 percent felt uncomfortable talking about their sins to another person.

It's time for fasting

Peace. I'm about to go into my Spring Detox via the Master Cleanser Fasting science. I do it a couple of times every year. Last year was the first time that I made Knowledge Born in the public internet sphere that I was doing it. I kept a journal and was surprised by how many people wanted to do it. Here's your chance. I'm going to be initiating it around the 15th of this month for 10 days. If you want to roll with me and have a small 'community' fast (fasting support group) hit me through email at alife@originalthoughtmag.com and keep your eyes on this blog. I'm going to do the journal thing again and through the comment section maybe we can get some dialogue up in here.

Black, Brown, Yellow and Green

I just joined up with Soul Veg Folk. It's a community of like minded Black veg people. I was put on to this by Blacktivegan (check the comments below son). There are a couple of other communities that I have on the right handed bar under Original Green Gangsta Communities. I also started organizing my stuff so I have Original Green Gangsta Communities for communities, my Black Brown and Yellow Peoples for my peeps pages, and finally Original Lifestyles for everything else (for now). Please go and check out those communities. The communities that are in my side bars are fresh to life! The overall problem is that alot of Black, Brown and Yellow peoples out there don't know about them. Thus we end up doing ou own thing on isolated islands. Let's bring it together and wreck shop.

As an aside. I was looking for a pic of spinach and came along this pic of a black Popeye, watermelon and all. On the real tip though spinach and watermelon ain't too bad a combo.

So I went to the doctor and.....

By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY, Associated Press Writer
37 minutes ago

LAS VEGAS - Nearly 40,000 people learned this week that a trip to the doctor may have made them sick. In a type of scandal more often associated with Third World countries, a Las Vegas clinic was found to be reusing syringes and vials of medication for nearly four years. The shoddy practices may have led to an outbreak of the potentially fatal hepatitis C virus and exposed patients to HIV, too.

The discovery led to the biggest public health notification operation in U.S. history, brought demands for investigations and caused scores of lawyers to seek out patients at risk for infections.

Thousands of patients are being urged to be tested for the viruses. Six acute cases of hepatitis C have been confirmed. The surgical center and five affiliated clinics have been closed.

"I find it baffling, frankly, that in this day and age anyone would think it was safe to reuse a syringe," said Michael Bell, associate director for infection control at the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One of the infected patients is retired airplane mechanic Michael Washington, 67, who was the first to report his infection. On the advice of his doctor, he received a routine colon exam in July at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.

In September, he started to get sick. He was losing weight fast. His urine turned dark. His stomach hurt. By January, it was clear what had happened.

Washington describes his virus as a "creeping death sentence" and worries that others will hear his story and think twice before getting preventive care they need.

In letters that began arriving this week, patients who received injected anesthesia at the endoscopy center from March 2004 to mid-January were urged to get tested for hepatitis B and C, and HIV.

Because all three viruses are transmitted by blood, they could have been passed from one patient to the next by the unsafe practices at the clinic.

The mass notification is the result of a health district investigation that began in January when officials linked an uptick of unusual hepatitis C cases to the clinic.

Health officials say they are most worried about the spread of hepatitis C, which targets the liver but shows no symptoms in as many as 80 percent of infections.

Hepatitis C results in the swelling of the liver and can cause stomach pain, fatigue and jaundice. It may eventually result in liver failure. Even when no symptoms occur, the virus can slowly cause damage to the liver.

Officials estimate that 4 percent of the patients already had the virus when they entered the clinic, compared with 0.5 percent for hepatitis B and less than 0.5 percent for HIV. Hepatitis C also is easier to transmit than HIV, they said.

"You put the two together and hepatitis C is really our big concern," said Brian Labus, senior epidemiologist at the Southern Nevada Health District.

Health inspectors say they observed clinic staff using the same syringe twice to extract anesthesia from a single vial, which was then inappropriately used to treat more than one patient. The practice allows contaminated blood in a used syringe to taint the vial and infect the next patient.

Of the six patients so far diagnosed with acute hepatitis C, five received treatment at the clinic on the same day in late September.

Since 1999, the CDC counts 14 hepatitis outbreaks in the U.S. linked to bad injection practices.

The largest outbreak occurred in Fremont, Neb., where 99 cancer patients were infected at an oncology center from 2001 to 2002. At least one died. The doctor involved in the case acknowledged reusing syringes and settled scores of lawsuit. But he never explained why the syringes were reused.

Bell said such improper procedures appear to be more common in outpatient surgical centers like the endoscopy center. Unlike hospitals, such centers often do not have employees whose sole responsibility is to monitor and educate staff on best practices.

In Las Vegas, clinic staff told inspectors they had been ordered by management to reuse the vials and syringes. Labus described the practice as an unwritten, but long-practiced policy.

Investigators were told the practice was an attempt to cut costs, according to a letter of complaint from the city, which revoked the facility's business license Friday. Five other facilities affiliated with the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada also had their licenses revoked.

The clinic's majority owner, Dipak Desai, a political contributor and member of the governor's commission on health care, (the dog & caveman gene in him) has refused to comment on the allegations.

He released a statement expressing concern for the patients and assuring the public the problems had been corrected. He later took out a full-page ad in Sunday's edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal insisting that needles had not been reused and that the chances of contracting an infection at the center in most of the last four years were "extremely low."

Of the thousands of people who have rushed to be tested, many will get positive results, Labus said. More than 15,000 people already have called the health district for information.

But it takes a more sophisticated test, a complete evaluation of risk factors and a clear pattern of infection to determine whether the virus was caught at the facility.

Plenty of lawyers are wading into the mess. Television ads called "health alerts" are soliciting clients. At least a handful of class-action lawsuits have been filed.

On Tuesday, the office of Las Vegas attorney Ed Bernstein was buzzing with phone calls — nearly 1,000 a day, he said. Bernstein said he represents about 1,200 patients at the facility, eight who have tested positive for hepatitis C.

Washington, the infected airplane mechanic, is one of Bernstein's clients.

His wife, Josephine, a registered nurse, wonders how any health care professional could be so reckless: "To maximize profit? For what? What are you going to save?"

Toxic Pig Brain Mist

Yeah...you read it right. You probablly ain't heard about the 'mad pig disease' scenario that's been brewing up recently.

Learn how to prepare your meals

I have to thank mom and pop for the cooking skills. We RARELY ate out (and I mean fast food and restaurants) cause my Old Earth (mother) gave us home cooked fare (and she worked full time as a teacher also). My father helped out also. In fact, he was the one who usually cooked breakfast. He was a cook in the Navy during WWII. His pancakes...what!!! I learned all of the basics from them both. I also learned the importance of home prepared meals. As i got older though I would eat fast food at times I knew that it didn't compare to a home prepared meal. It was sad because some of my peers DIDN'T know this because it wasn't in their experience.

It definitely made it easier when I transitioned my diet into Vegetarian, Vegan, raw foodism. I was familiar with preparing food. Seeing that most of the fast food places and restaurants were meat-centric that was an essential skill I needed to have.

It's a basic survival skill that we've shunted to the side; how to prepare the foods we need in a manner that is pleasing to us. When I bring it to people in the hood I let them know how economically sound this is. If you are spending aprox $5 three times a day for seven days that $105 a week for food!! You can do better than that.

Also, yes I said it, ain't nothing sexier then a woman who knows how to prepare food. Now many may see this on a sexist tip yet let me break it down (and Build it back up again). My body is the vehicle by which I transform my environment. Through her manipulation of flora and fauna she cares for my physical. That meal is a manifestation of her love for me. She wants me to be in the greatest health and happiness. From the me manifests a we that is in harmony. How could I not acknowledge the work that she puts into each and every meal. Things like this sometimes makes your heart chakra swell.

Get yourself a home made meal.
